Now What? The NCAA and Player Compensation in the Wake of the House v. NCAA Settlement CLE

In June 2025, a federal court approved the landmark House v. NCAA class action settlement, authorizing Division 1 schools to share upwards of $20 million in athletic revenue directly with student-athletes. But the legal landscape with respect to the NCAA and student athlete compensation remains far from settled.  Legal and logistical questions abound as the NCAA enters yet another new transformative era, including (but certainly not limited to):

  • the ability of the new College Sports Commission to enforce limitations on third-party NIL deals with affluent and influential collectives and boosters;
  • whether schools will adhere to new rules or otherwise attempt to circumvent them;
  • the impact on so-called "Olympic" sports that generate less revenue than football and basketball;
  • lingering legal challenges relating to athletes' employment status and to potential Title IX concerns
  • And the status of efforts to have Congress or the Oval Office codify a uniform set of rules
     

In this program (set just before the 2025 college football season), Stone Pigman attorney Fritz Metzinger will delve into all these issues and more as he discusses the House settlement's terms and ramifications and provides insight into potential legal challenges and dilemmas on the horizon.
