The Distinguished Maritime Lawyer Award recognizes lawyers who have been a long-standing member of the Maritime & International Law Committee, highly respected among peers, and contributes significantly to the local admiralty bar.
Nomination and Voting Guidelines
- To submit a nomination, send an email to Helena N. Henderson or use the Nomination Form below.
- Only Active Members of the Maritime and International Law Committee may vote.
- Previous recipients are ineligible.
- Nominations must include a letter of recommendation signed from the nominating member of the Maritime & International Law Committee, along with 2 additional Committee members' concurrence in the nomination. See criteria below.
- Active NOBA Members must join the Committee by August 1st to be eligible to vote.
Nominations Deadline
- August 15th of each year.
- Nominations received after the deadline will be considered for the following year’s award.
- Long-standing member of the Maritime & International Law Committee
- Highly respected among peers
- Contributes significantly to the local admiralty bar
- A letter of recommendation signed from the nominating member of the Maritime & International Law Committee including:
- The nominee's contributions to the admiralty bar and/or the law of admiralty
- The nominee's reputation with colleagues, opponents and the judiciary
- The nominee's leadership and participation in noteworthy litigation
- Two additional Committee members' concurrence in the nomination
Eligibility
- Membership in the Maritime and International Law Committee and the New Orleans Bar Association
- Actively engaged in the private practice of law
- Lawyers holding or seeking elective office are ineligible
