The New Orleans Bar Foundation is the charitable and fundraising arm of the New Orleans Bar Association. The Foundation funds a number of worthwhile programs such as the first bar association sponsored public interest law fellowship housed in Southeast Louisiana Legal Services, a variety of programs for young lawyers to develop leadership skills, and many other activities beneficial to the bar and to the City of New Orleans. Through our fundraising activities we support our pro bono and legal services partners, Southeast Louisiana Legal Services and the Pro Bono Project. For our YLS Law Day programs in local courts, the Foundation funds Law Day materials and lunches for school children.
Most notably, we created the prestigious Veterans Justice Fellowship in Southeast Louisiana Legal Services, which serves the civil legal needs of low-income veterans in the New Orleans area. We also fund the yearly Arceneaux Professionalism Award and the Mark Moreau Public Interest Law Award.
Our current fundraising events are the Bar & Grille law firm cooking competition and the Cornhole Classic Tournament, both organized by the Young Lawyers Section, and a Basketball Tournament. In the past, we have hosted other fundraisers such as wine tastings, bowling tournaments, golf tournaments, and lawyer band competitions, whose proceeds support the good works of lawyers through our partners, Southeast Louisiana Legal Services and the Pro Bono Project.
