Southeast Louisiana Legal Services (SLLS) is NOBA's legal services partner who provides free legal services to the underserved members of a 22-parish area. SLLS serves about 50% of the impoverished population in Louisiana, which is consistently ranked as one of the highest poverty rates in the nation. NOBA supports SLLS through various fundraising activities by funding the first-of-its-kind Veterans Justice Fellowship. The prestigious Veterans Justice Fellowship addresses the unmet civil legal needs that adversely impact the lives of the 25% of New Orleans area veterans who are low-income. NOBA also funds other worthwhile programs such as the Mark Moreau Public Interest Law Award for the outstanding public interest lawyer each year.
NOBA also appoints a board member to the SLLS board of directors.
