Summary
Offshore wind has been a huge focus of the Biden Administration from both a policy and fiscal standpoint. The Administration has set a goal of 30 GW of offshore wind power by 2030. As the United States' offshore wind industry has begun to take-off, it has done so thanks, in no small part, to the equipment, know-how, and experience of the oil and gas services industries throughout the Gulf Coast. Marine and oil and gas service companies along the Gulf Coast have already begun applying their skills and experience to building a new, renewable American energy industry in offshore wind. While preparing for the imminent rise of offshore wind use in the Gulf, Gulf Coast oil and gas service companies — along with the banks and engineering/consulting firms that have supported oil and gas projects in the petroleum energy economy — can take immediate advantage of their unique experience and skillsets to become part of the expanding (and increasingly critical) offshore wind supply chain necessary to meet U.S. renewable energy goals. Please join NOBA’s Oil & Gas Committee on September 14 at 12:00 p.m. for a one-hour CLE to learn more about: (i) the current status of domestic offshore wind projects (along the East Coast and in the GOM); (ii) the call areas and environmental assessments for offshore wind projects in the Gulf of Mexico; (iii) the generation of green hydrogen in the Gulf of Mexico; (iv) the Renewable Energy Task Force for Gulf Coast States; (v) private sector investments in the domestic offshore wind market; (vi) domestic supply chain; and (vii) the regulatory outlook at the state and federal level, among other topics. And for some real-world practical perspective, our panel will also include representatives from two industry leading companies - on both the developer side and service/supply chain side - in the emerging offshore wind market, with a particular focus on wind in the Gulf of Mexico. Anthony Bodin is the Louisiana Senior Offshore Wind Developer for RWE, a global leader in offshore wind which has teamed with GNO Inc. to develop a Louisiana offshore wind supply chain. Otto Candies, IV is a Business Development Specialist, focusing on the Gulf of Mexico, for the New Energy Division of Crowley Maritime Corp., which for well over a century has provided maritime vessel and project logistics solutions in various sectors (including traditional offshore oil and gas) and is bringing that experience to the new offshore wind space.
