Summary

Professor Melissa T. Lonegrass will explain the Legislature’s most recent revisions to Louisiana property law. The 2023 revisions to Civil Code articles 520 and 525 provide much needed and long-awaited clarity to the law governing the transfer of ownership of movables and bring Louisiana law into line with the common law bona fide purchaser doctrine that is employed in the other 49 states. Professor Lonegrass will also discuss the significance of these revisions to the ongoing reform of the Louisiana Lease of Movables Act and the Louisiana Law Institute’s efforts to modernize Louisiana’s law of leases.
