3:40 p.m. – 4:40 p.m. City of New Orleans Building Energy Benchmarking Ordinance
On July 10, 2025, the City Council of New Orleans passed the Building Energy Benchmarking Ordinance. This ordinance requires that large buildings, which are defined as tax parcels with a total square footage of 20,000 sq ft or more, submit annual energy use data to the city once a year. New Orleans joins over 50 cities, counties, and states that have implemented benchmarking ordinances which have helped create transparency around energy use and emissions in large commercial and residential buildings.
