"Yes, and": Improv Techniques and Tips to Make You a Better Lawyer and Communicator
CLE & Happy Hour Co-Hosted by the Complex Litigation and Maritime & International Law Committees
Wed, November 5, 2025
3:30 PM - 5:00 PM CT
The practice of law increasingly demands excellence in communication, client relations, effective public speaking and courtroom presence. NOBA's Complex Litigation Committee and Maritime & International Law Committee are co-hosting an improv-based training with corporate improv coach, Chris Trew, that will present attendees with tips, tools, and exercises for collaborative, creative improv solutions to help attendees be better listeners and speakers: whether in Court or interpersonal communications with clients, colleagues, or opposing counsel.
The workshop will teach lawyers to be active listeners, think on their feet, and respond confidently to unexpected questions from judges and opposing counsel with only a moment's notice. This helps legal professionals respond positively by transforming challenging moments into opportunities by following the improv fundamental of learning to say "yes, and" to find an alternative way to make ideas work rather than immediately rejecting them, helping lawyers to be better problem-solvers and solution-finders.
