Law firms increasingly depend on a complex mix of technologies while facing growing cybersecurity threats and heightened client expectations. This panel discussion brings together legal and technical professionals to provide a 10,000-foot overview of the most pressing technology concerns for modern practice and their ethical implications.

The program will explore how core professional duties intersect with practical realities of law firm technology. Panelists will cover risks such as: ransomware, data breaches, and insider threats; challenges in adopting and supervising AI; and the responsibilities lawyers carry when working with vendors, managing data, or operating across borders. The session will emphasize practical takeaways that help attorneys spot key risks, ask the right questions, and fulfill their ethical duties without requiring deep technical expertise.

Key Topics:

  • Competence, confidentiality, and supervision in the digital context.
  • Cybersecurity risks, breach response, and ethical notification.
  • Cloud contracts, vendor due diligence, and data governance.
  • Remote and hybrid practice: maintaining confidentiality and oversight.
  • AI in legal research, drafting, and e-discovery: benefits and boundaries.
  • Privacy, regulatory, and cross-border compliance concerns.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize some top technology risks and ethical duties facing law firms.
  • Identify best practices for managing cybersecurity, AI, and cloud adoption.
  • Engage confidently with technical professionals to safeguard client information and maintain compliance.
