NOBA's Oil & Gas Committee To Become Energy Committee

As the oil & gas industry continues to evolve, it is important to not only honor the rich history that the industry has brought to Louisiana and its economy over the last several decades, but it is equally as important to acknowledge the transition that is ongoing.  As such, the New Orleans Bar Association will be changing the name of its “Oil & Gas Committee” to the “Energy Committee” effective December 1, 2022.  We believe that this change not only captures and recognizes all of the hard work of the oil & gas industry over time, but it is also a nod to all of the new, renewable forms of energy that are coming to the forefront, such as carbon capture & sequestration, offshore wind, hydrogen, lower-carbon solutions, solar, geothermal energy, biofuels, biomass, etc.  While we know that traditional oil & gas will be here for many more decades to come, this change is intended to be inclusive of and recognize other forms of energy that are entering this space.  This change is also in line with trends that are happening across the country at the federal, state, and local levels.  We hope that NOBA’s members will embrace this more expansive and forward-thinking name change.  After all, this industry is all about innovation and developing right-sized solutions for the future.
