On Sunday, April 13, the Young Lawyers Section hosted the New Orleans Bar & Grille law firm cooking competition at the Peristyle in City Park. The competition was led by Honorary Chair Judge Robin Pittman and Bar & Grille Co-Chairs Justine Ware and Ava Maria Wolf. Teams of amateur chefs from local law firms competed for “Best Traditional Dish,” “Best Dessert,” “Best Cocktail/Mocktail,” “Most Creative Dish,” “Team Spirit,” “Crowd Favorite,” and “Best Overall” titles awarded by our distinguished judges. Proceeds from the cooking competition benefit the Veterans Justice Fellowship. Congratulations to the 2025 Bar & Grille winners!

1st Place Best Overall: Camp MBLB

Team Camp MBLB was on fire at the Bar & Grille winning
first-place Best Overall, Best Traditional Dish, Best Dessert,
Most Creative Dish,
and Crowd Favorite. Their Boudin Melt,
S’mores Ice Cream, and Frozen Strawberry Irish Lemonade
had the judges and spectators coming back for seconds. At the
awards presentation, we paused the campfire songs to sing some
praises for Camp MBLB.

2nd Place Best Overall: Phelps Dunbar

Phelps Dunbar’s “Phogun” delivered spectacular flavors in their
Vegetable Fried Rice & Chicken Teriyaki Skewer with Yum Yum
Sauce and Sake Smash Cocktail earning them first-place for Best
Cocktail
, first-place Team Spirit, and second-place Best Overall.

3rd Place Best Overall: Bayou McGlinchey

Team McGlinchey traded their suits for shrimp boots at the Bar
and Grille. The team took us on a trip down the bayou with their
Shrimp & Crab Sauce Piquante and Tempura Fried Bread Pudding
with Whiskey dishes. The team earned second-place wins in the
Best Traditional Dish and Best Dessert categories. The team also
earned third-place Best Overall.

Pipes Miles Beckman - LAWS

Pipes Miles Beckman is gonna need a bigger boat for their awards!
The team’s dedication to their “Laws” theme wowed the judges
earning them both second and third-place in the Most Creative category
for their Pearls of Wisdom dessert and Shark Bite cocktail, respectively.
The team also won third-place in the Best Dessert category for their Pearls
of Wisdom. These sharks came hungry!

Stone Pigman – 909 Esquires

Stone Pigman’s “909 Esquires. Ordinary Cooks. Extraordinary Counselors.”
brought the moves (and some pretty cute mascots) to the Bar & Grille. The
team danced their way to second-place Best Cocktail for their Prickly Pear
Margaritas and third-place Team Spirit. Cue the music!

Deutsch Kerrigan - Deutsch Dawgs

Take me out to the ballgame? Deutsch Kerrigan did just that with their
Deutsch Dawgs. The team’s Deutsch Dawgs dish, Spiked Lemonade,
and Homemade Cracker Jack’s served in a baseball helmet bowl had the
Bar and Grille feeling like a day at the ballpark. The team won second-place
in the Team Spirit category. Special shoutout to Catherine Filippi who donned
her Deutsch’s Dawg costume to show her team spirit!

Strauss Massey Dinneen – SMD Fest

SMD Fest gave Jazz Fest a run for its money with their food offerings.
Their crawfish pasta, bread pudding, and spiked strawberry lemonade
had the Peristyle feeling like the Fairgrounds and earned the team second
place in the Crowd Favorite category.

JJC Law

JJC spent the day grilling up Caycedillas (with the option to DeLARGE
your order by adding grilled onions and peppers to the already delicious
chicken Caycedilla) and pouring Agave Marias which won third-place in
the Best Cocktail category. JJC also took home third-place Crowd Favorite.

Adams & Reese

Adams and Reese entered some Italian-inspired favorites into the competition.
Their Little CeasA&R dish, a meatball topped with basil ricotta served over
garlic bread, won third-place for Best Traditional Dish. The team paired their
dish with the espresso mA&Rtini, a cannoli cream espresso martini.

Baker Donelson – Parkway Baker

Parkway Baker served up family-style favorites with their Brother Baker’s
Specialty Roast Beef Po-Boy with Gravy, Donelson Family Recipe
House-Made Banana Puddin’, and “The Porch Swing” grapefruit cocktail.

Barrasso Usdin – Barrasso’s Backyard BBQ

Aloha from Barrasso’s Backyard Barbecue! Barrasso Usdin’s tropical
themed barbecue was a slice of paradise at the Bar & Grille offering
pulled pork Settlement Sliders and Innocent until Proven GuilTEA.

Jones Walker, Texas Ranger

There’s a new sheriff in town, and it’s Jones Walker, Texas Ranger.
Jones Walker means business with their Six-Shooter Skewer entrée,
Gold Rush Blondies for dessert, and Ranch Water Cocktail.

Liskow – Backyard Beach Bums

It was a Luau at Liskow’s booth this year. The team kept it tropical
with their Backyard Beach Bums theme serving Pineapple Pork
Sliders and Painkiller cocktails. Mahalo!

Pugh Accardo – Tiki Torts

Pugh Accardo’s Tiki Bar was a popular stop at the Bar & Grille.
Their Strict Luau-Belly Noodles were delicious paired with their
Bee-yond A Reasonable Mai Tai cocktail. Thanks to President-Elect
Larry Pugh for manning the grill!

Sher Garner

It was a fiesta at Sher Garner’s table. The team served up See Ya
in Court Shrimp Tacos and Settlement Time Sangria. Taco ‘bout
a good time!
