We share the sad news that New Orleans Bar Association lost a dear friend on November 15, 2024, Judge Helen “Ginger” Berrigan. Judge Berrigan was a valued member of the NOBA board of directors, helping to guide and shape NOBA’s policies for several years. Judge Berrigan’s leadership was instrumental in helping other board members think about inclusiveness and developing a community at the bar, making us a better bar association. Judge Berrigan was a frequent lecturer for our CLE programs, particularly on ethics and professionalism. She was known to receive standing ovations for her presentations, which were creative and engaging. She was committed to all law-related education, participated in NOBA’s Law Day programs, mock trials for children, and created the Down with Delinquency program for teens adjudicated delinquent. Judge Berrigan was also a member of the NOBA Inn of Court. The feature piece the Wall St. Journal did about her office described the welcome mat outside her chambers and the fireplace with furry slippers in her chambers.  The story it told said so much to those of us who knew it represented her welcoming demeanor to members of the bar. She will be missed.
