The State of Our Union: Minorities in the Profession Committee Meeting

March 17 2016 | Committees

"You are a leader!" These are some of the final encouraging words that Chancellor Pierre left the minorities in the profession committee with during their lunch meeting on March 17, 2016. Kelly Legier, Chancellor Pierre, and Ronald Wilson engaged in an interesting discussion about the state of African-Americans in the legal profession on both a national and local level. The speakers discussed their legal careers, how and whether the profession has changed insofar as it relates to the inclusion of minorities (rather than simple diversity) in law firms, and why the legal profession remains one of the least diverse professions, among other things. Today's meeting was the start of a discussion that will certainly continue. A special thanks to committee chair, Kimberly Silas, for arranging.
