Andrew Tuozzolo, Chief of Staff of the Louisiana Department of Health, presented a compelling case for the Affordable Care Act and the benefits of Medicaid expansion in Louisiana on Thursday, September 8 at NOBA. 297,730 more people now have health insurance coverage in Louisiana this year with a goal of 375,000 enrollees in this first year. This has and will produce positive health outcomes in Louisiana including an estimated 542 fewer deaths, more than 7500 additional mammography screenings and a savings of $184 million in FY17 alone. Next steps include payment reform, improving data and improving outcomes to energize and engage all Louisianans in a culture of health.
