Robert B. Acomb, Jr., former recipient of the NOBA Presidents' Award (2002) and the Distinguished Maritime Lawyer of the Year (1996), passed away following a short illness. Bob is also familiar to generations of NOBA maritime lawyers whom he taught as an Adjunct Professor at Tulane Law School beginning in 1969. He also chaired Tulane’s Admiralty Law Institute and the Tulane Maritime Law Journal’s Board of Advisory Editors. Fellow lawyers elected him into the American College of Trial Lawyers. Bob was not only distinguished in his law practice, but was actively involved in many associations including the Associated Catholic Charities and Christian Brothers Foundation.
At Jones Walker, he formed and led its Maritime Practice Group. Bill Hines, Managing Partner, reflected, “Bob was a community and civic leader as well as a very respected lawyer. He led our Maritime Practice Group and mentored generations of lawyers who have distinguished themselves in the practice of maritime law. Bob loved New Orleans and his alma maters of Jesuit and Tulane. He will be missed. Our thoughts and condolences extend to his family and friends.”
In memory of Mr. Acomb, New Orleans Bar Association has made a donation to the New Orleans Bar Foundation.
A private family service will be held. Donations may be made to the 'Admiralty Law Scholarship in honor of Robert B. Acomb Jr.' by clicking here.
