The Real Property Law Committee held their monthly meeting on July 30th. Aimee Quirk, Advisor to the Mayor for Economic Development, was the speaker and discussed Recent Economic Development in New Orleans. Ms. Quirk started off by mentioning that in the past 4 years, 7,800 new jobs have been created and the focus of the city is corporate attraction and expansion. ProsperityNOLA is the first economic development plan for New Orleans and the entire concept is based around a plan to drive economic growth for 2018. Digital Media, information technology, biosciences and healthcare, and advanced manufacturing are the industries with room for growth. Ms. Quirk brought up the expansion of New Orleans East, which is a huge corporate base and has a large population center. There is a lot of available land and the goal is to expand the tax base with retail amenities. The meeting came to a close with discussion on the renovation of the airport. There will be a new terminal building on the Lake Pontchartrain side, and the current facilities will not be interrupted while building the new one.
