Videos on How to File a Protective Order

October 8 2020 | Committees

Six short and easy to understand videos on how to file for a protective order were produced by our colleagues at Louisiana Appleseed and funded by the Louisiana Bar Foundation: This project is intended to bolster the capacity of attorneys  to serve and empower survivors to seek protection. As a recent article noted for Jefferson Parish, homicide rates in domestic violence have doubled during COVID. The same is true in Orleans Parish.

Also, Appleseed is still in need of several volunteers in every region of the state to be "Appleseed Ambassadors" for Q&A sessions with domestic violence service providers. The staff of domestic violence organizations want to engage in basic Q&A on the protective order process so that they are competent in explaining it to the survivors. Ambassadors are needed in the Greater New Orleans Area. Please contact Adrienne Wheeler, Executive Director of Louisiana Appleseed (504-561-7312 or 504-756-2171; if you can help.

Finally, at 1:30 on December 16th,  NOBA Procrastinators CLE Series will feature the effects of COVID on victims served by the New Orleans Family Justice Center. This has been an incredible undertaking, and you will be informed of the extraordinary need for legal services for these victims. I hope to see you there.
