New Orleans Bar Association Denounces Media Attacks on Justice System in Louisiana

NEW ORLEANS, JULY 16, 2013 - The board of directors of the New Orleans Bar Association wishes to express its concern and extreme disappointment regarding the recent media attacks on Louisiana licensed attorneys and the Louisiana legal system. The media's portrayal of Louisiana attorneys and judges, particularly Judge Carl Barbier, is offensive and unwarranted. In our experience, Judge Barbier's intellect, integrity and commitment to justice, both as a former president of the New Orleans Bar Association and as a trial judge, are beyond reproach. The media's apparent attempt to undermine the public's confidence in the Louisiana system of justice is irresponsible. The public, being both the individuals and corporate entities who may be litigants in the Louisiana courts now and in the future, should be encouraged that despite the recent media attacks, the Louisiana legal system remains dedicated and committed to the pursuit of justice as its first and most significant priority.

The New Orleans Bar Association represents the interests of lawyers practicing in the New Orleans metropolitan area. The Association was founded in 1924 and has 3,000 members.
