2017 Region 4 High School Mock Trial Competition

The Jefferson Bar Association is coordinating the 2017 Regional Competition (high school teams are invited to compete from Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, and St. Tammany Parishes).

There are 18 high school teams from 9 schools registered for this year's Regional Competition, and the JBA is greatly in need of volunteers to act as Presiding and Scoring Judges. There will be 4 rounds and we welcome attorneys to sign up to judge one or more rounds.

Various shifts are available in the morning or afternoon. However, we need the most judges during the two morning rounds. We estimate the first round to start at 8:30 a.m. and the final round to start around 3:30 p.m. We will provide coffee and donuts in the morning and a boxed lunch during the lunch break to our volunteers.

Date: Saturday, February 4, 2017
Location: 24th Judicial District Courthouse, Gretna, LA
Schedule: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (Various Shifts Available for Volunteers)

If you are interested in volunteering to serve as a presiding judge, scoring judge, or in a non-judging capacity (on-sight registration, score calculator, runner, etc.), please complete the volunteer questionnaire HERE.

Please contact Betty Maury for more information and visit the JBA YLD High School Mock Trial Page.

It is a wonderful opportunity for these high school students, and they cannot compete without your assistance. Any attorney who is concerned that he or she is not qualified to judge a round at the Competition should know that they are, in fact, qualified to judge and will greatly enjoy the experience. Attorneys with substantial litigation experience qualify to serve as a presiding judge.
