New Orleans Bar Association hosts Family Law Mental Health Expert Conference

October 13 2017 | Committees

A standing room only meeting took place on October 9, 2017, at 1515 Poydras in which family law judges, attorneys, and mental health experts met to discuss a variety of issues relating to family law cases. Approximately 25 family law mental health experts attended and shared their credentials, areas of expertise, and exchanged ideas with family lawyers and judges so that the legal community could discuss and learn how to better handle family law cases in general, and cases involving custody, visitation, domestic violence, etc. specifically.

The New Orleans Bar Association was joined by the Jefferson Parish and St. Tammany Parish Bar Associations in hosting the program. Family law attorneys Steven Lane with the law firm of Herman, Herman & Katz; Kim Nguyen and Jeffrey Hoffman with the law firm of Lowe, Stein, Hoffman, Allweiss & Hauver; Edith Morris with the law firm of Morris, Lee & Bayle; Marc Winsberg with the law firm of Winsberg & Arnold; and Frank Tranchina with the law firm of Tranchina & Mansfield assisted in organizing the event. As a result of the success of this event, it is anticipated that future similar meetings among family lawyers, judges, and experts will take place in the future.

The meeting was open to members of the New Orleans, Jefferson and St. Tammany bar associations, and all family law attorneys are encouraged to join the sponsoring bar associations.
