CLE & Social - "Fine Art Law and the Fine Art of Appraisal"

Join the NOBA Entertainment Law Committee on September 3, 2015 at 4:30 p.m. at Martin Lawrence Galleries for an exciting evening CLE in the heart of the French Quarter to learn how disputes over the ownership, authenticity and value of fine art and antiques should be handled when an art object becomes  in your case. 

Attorney Walter F. Wolf, III, who was a museum curator and professional historian prior to his extensive career in transactional and corporate law,will discuss a variety of topics involving fine art objects including:

  • Intellectual property issues involving fine art
  • Forgeries
  • Transfer of ownership of fine art objects

Certified fine art appraiser Sherry Kohlert has an extensive career in fine art appraisal and will share her knowledge regarding :

  • Retaining an expert  appraiser when your litigation, bankruptcy or succession case when a potentially valuable fine art or antique comes into play.
  • Appraising v. authentication
  • Using and registering art with national art registries
  • Handling insurance disputes and damage claims involving valuable art pieces.

On April 23, James Thornton and Donna Santiago spoke on How to Win Using Musical Concepts  and the All Rights Deal.

On September 17, 2014, the Committee held a CLE "It's a matter of character: Recent developments in the copyright of literary and movie characters" with speaker, Walter Wolf.
