Intellectual Property and Entertainment Lawyers Needed
for IP Clinic for Creators of Color

The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, a national non-profit organized based in Washington, D.C., seeks the pro bono assistance of IP and entertainment lawyers with staffing an intellectual property clinic in New Orleans on July 6th. 
 
Legal needs include advice on arts-related legal matters, including trademarks, copyrights, patents, and contracts, among other issues. Basic information on the artists will be made available to volunteers in advance of the clinic.  As no training will be available, only those with a background in IP or entertainment law should volunteer.

Recent Events:

On September 3, 2015, the Committee held a CLE & Social at Martin Lawrence Galleries. Walter Wolf III discussed a variety of topics involving fine art objects including forgeries and transfer of ownership of fine art objects. Sherry Kohlert, certified fine art appriaser, shared her knowledge regarding appraising v. authentication and using and handling insurance disputes and damage claims involving valuable art pieces.

On April 23, 2015, James Thornton and Donna Santiago spoke on How to Win Using Musical Concepts  and the All Rights Deal.

On September 17, 2014, the Committee held a CLE "It's a matter of character: Recent developments in the copyright of literary and movie characters" with speaker, Walter Wolf.
