2006 Distinguished Maritime Lawyer Award Recipient

A. Gordon Grant Jr. a partner of Montgomery, Barnett, Brown, Read, Hammond and Mintz is the 2006 recipient of the Distinguished Maritime Lawyer Award.  The members of the New Orleans Bar Association's Maritime and International Law Committee annually select a member who is a long-standing member of the Maritime and International Law Committee, is highly respected among his peers and contributes significantly to the local admiralty bar.

Grant is a member of the New Orleans Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Bar Association of the Fifth Federal Circuit and the Maritime Law Association of the United States, where he served as Vice-Chairman of Recreational Boating Committee from 1990-94.

An instructor of Admiralty Law at the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, University of New Orleans, and a contributing author (Benedict on Admiralty, Volume 8, Seventh Edition; Recreational Boating Law, published by Matthew Bender), Grant is a member of the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute,  the New Orleans Bar Association Inn of Court, the Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers, the Association of Average Adjusters of the United States, Propeller Club - Port of New Orleans (Board of Governors 1992-94) and the American Boat and Yacht Council (Board of Directors 1991-1998 and 2002-2005).

A New Orleans native, Grant received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina in 1967 and his juris doctor from Tulane Law School in 1970.


NOBA President Hon. Carl J. Barbier presented the Distinguished Maritime Lawyer Award to Grant at a
         luncheon held in his honor in New Orleans at the Hotel InterContinental on April 24, 2007.
